Ben Vereen has filed for divorce from his wife of 36 years, Nancy Bruner. TMZ reports.

Court records show the Tony-Award winning Broadway legend  filed the petition in L.A. County Superior Court citing irreconcilable differences. Vereen’s filing states the pair separated in March. Vereen and Bruner were married in 1976 after meeting on the set of a play. The couple’s children are all adults. Vereen is asking a court to terminate his wife’s ability to collect spousal support.

65-year-old Vereen won a Tony Award in 1973 for his role in “Pippin” and he has appeared in numerous films and television series. His acting credits vary but Vereen is probably best known for his role in the miniseries “Roots”.
