Talk television show, is getting divorced after 20 years of marriage. Her husband, Jeff Tietjens, filed the paperwork with the Los Angeles Superior Court earlier this month, but the couple has been separated since January of 2015.
Taylor and Teitjens were college sweethearts and married in 1994. Taylor has been open about their inability to have children, which may have played a part in their marriage ending, but the court documents merely cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the divorce.
Although Teitjens has not sought to recover alimony from Taylor in the initial filings, he has reserved the right to do so at a later date.
According to E-Online, Taylor was emotional about her divorce, tearing up as she discussed it on The Talk. “He’s the person who has influenced me and cared for me the most. In fact, he cared for me even longer than my parents have cared for me and it’s very hard when you love someone very much to also start to realize that maybe you want different things for your lives,” she explained. “That’s a very difficult realization to come to and you don’t want to accept it and you don’t want to believe it.”
Taylor further informed her co-hosts, Sheryl Underwood and Sara Gilbert, that she kept her marital struggles private in order to protect her husband. “He didn’t choose this life, I chose this life. It’s very unfair to drag someone into this life that doesn’t want any part of it. The only reason they’re here is because they fell in love with someone in the business. He’s a very private person. He’s a very kind-hearted person and I didn’t want to expose him to the kind of stuff I knew was going to come when this happened.”
Taylor seems to only have kind things to say about Teitjens and she does not view their marriage as a failure. She stated, “He’s a wonderful person. He’s been my best friend for always my entire life. I’ll always love him. I want to say to people out there that are speculating about it, that’s what I’m going to say about the relationship and the rest of it is none of your damn business.”
