After two years, Cuba Gooding Jr. finally responded to his wife’s divorce petition for separation by filing a divorce petition himself. Sara Kapfer, Gooding’s high school sweetheart, filed for legal separation in 2014. The couple, married since 1994, has three children.
Gooding is known for a series of memorable roles in the films Boyz n the Hood, Pearl Harbor, and The Tuskegee Airmen. He’s also won an Academy Award for his part in Jerry Maguire and portrayed O.J. Simpson in the FX television drama series The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story in 2016. Gooding’s father, Cuba Gooding Sr., is a lead vocalist of the vocal trio The Main Ingredient, who had a hit in 1972 with Everybody Plays the Fool.
Gooding requested joint legal and physical custody of their 10-year-old daughter and has apparently expressed a willingness to pay Kapfer alimony or spousal support. However, as would be expected, Gooding does not want to share any of his current income, including that from his role as O.J. Simpson, from the date Kapfer filed for separation citing irreconcilable differences.
In March 2016, the actor spoke of reconciliation on the “Steve Harvey Show.” “Well, officially, I’m still married. You know how marriages go, sometimes you take a break or two.,” “All I’m saying is that my life is what it is right now… Things happen, you grow up. I took my wife on a date the other day. Took her to see a movie the other day. Yeah. We got kids, man. We got to keep this together, strong, you know? That’s how I see it.”
Oh well.
