Drew Barrymore, 41, and Will Kopelman are calling it quits on their marriage after almost four years together. According to PEOPLE magazine, an insider states that “[t]hey wanted different things. Sometimes you want so badly to have what you didn’t have and then when you get it, it’s not exactly what you thought it would be.”
Barrymore appears to be handling the divorce well. She was her happy-go-lucky self at the Pebble Beach Food & Wine Festival on April 2nd, the same day she publicly confirmed her divorce from Kopelman. She released her label’s (Barrymore Wines) new rose wines and socialized with fans.
The couple first met in 2011 and married the following year. They have two daughters – Olive, 3, and Frankie, 23 months.
“I’ve become such a better person through Will and our kids and everything,” she told PEOPLE last October. “It’s hard. It’s a lot to have two kids immediately back-to-back. It’s a lot to be in a marriage. But he’s a good person, and he’s very supportive of me and the things I want to do. I give him a tremendous amount of credit.”
The couple had several differences that became more apparent over time. Will is stable, organized and disciplined, while Barrymore is more carefree. Barrymore is extremely busy with her Flower Beauty and Flower Eyewear lines, as well as her film production company, in addition to striving to be a good mom.
Dividing their time between L.A. and New York City, the family settled into their Park Avenue apartment so Olive could go to preschool. Yet sources say the couple’s differences became harder to ignore. It appears Barrymore and Kopelman are parting friends and intend to keep things amicable. Their decision to divorce was not made lightly or quickly.
