Gwen Stefani and her relationships have been all over the news lately. The “Used to Love You” singer’s divorce from Gavin Rossdale was finalized last month and it was recently revealed that she and fellow coach on The Voice television show, Blake Shelton, are dating. Blake Shelton also recently divorced his wife, Miranda Lambert. Stefani has said that she and Shelton have a lot in common having both gone through recent divorces.
In discussing her divorce during On Air With Ryan Seacrest, Stefani stated: “My life blew up in my face.” She further revealed that her relationship took a nose dive the day after the Grammy’s. While the divorce paperwork cites “irreconcilable differences” for the divorce, it is still unclear what actually caused the couple to end things after 13 years of marriage. However, there have been reports that Rossdale cheated on Stefani with their nanny.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Stefani has said “I feel like I don’t have anything to hide,” but her upcoming album is laced with clues. “What I will tell you is that I was married for a long time and now I’m not. It was like a shock.”
Stefani’s record company informed her that many of her recent songs were too personal and that her fans would not be able to relate to them, but “Used to Love You” (which was reportedly written after a “major event happened”) is the first track from her album to be released. In the song Stefani sings: ‘I don’t know why I cry, but I think it’s ’cause I remembered for the first time since I hated you, that I used to love you’.
Stefani has said that the birth of her son, Apollo, and her divorce from Rossdale have provided her with new creativity and the desire to write more songs. She explained that she had writer’s block and initially surrendered to the idea of curating an entire LP with songs written by other people until she was struck with a rush of creativity after the split.
“I think I have enough probably for two albums,” she said. “I got 20 songs. I want to keep writing.”
With the recent announcement that Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are officially dating, let’s hope some of her new songs are happy and hopeful.
