Austin Winkler, the frontman of the band Hinder, has filed for divorce from his wife, Jami Miller, after seven and a half years of marriage.
The singer filed his divorce papers in the Los Angeles Superior Court on December 30, 2015. What is most interesting about his filing is that he is representing himself without using an attorney. This is called filing pro se.
Winkler claims that the couple does not have any community property to divide, which is surprising since the couple got married in 2008, prior to Hinder hitting it big. While he may be making this claim because they had a prenuptial agreement, he does not mention it in his filings.
The rocker also claims they separated from each other in July of 2014, so neither party should be awarded spousal support.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Winkler was Hinder’s original frontman before he left the band in 2013. The band continued without him, but according to Cody Hanson, one of the band members, they held “no animosity towards Austin, and wish him the best,”
“Although it was a difficult decision, it was the best thing for everyone involved and time for us to move on. This summer/fall tour was a tough one. We want to thank the fans for all their overwhelming support.” he added.
Winkler has been battling a drug addiction and has been in and out of rehabilitation facilities. He has stated: “It was definitely tough. You know, I found myself in rehab actually. It’s hard. It’s hard to not be…I can’t be fake. We write all about real things that have happened, real feelings, and experiences. It’s something that I can’t fake”, he said.
