Jean-Claude Van Damme, an actor well-known for his martial arts movies, and his wife, Gladys, have reportedly called off their divorce. Gladys, a professional bodybuilder, filed for divorce from the ‘Expendables 2’ star in Los Angeles in March, but has apparently changed her mind. According to Jean-Claude, the couple hopes to make their marriage work for the sake of their two adult children, Kristopher and Bianca.
He tells TMZ.com, “The JCVD family is strong, the kids are strong, the wife is strong.”
“Well, you know, so much divorce around the world and it’s very bad for the children, that’s the problem. Couples, they have to work their stuff together, no matter what they have to do. I’ve been divorced before, it’s not funny. If people can stick together like the old times… the value will come back.”
He continues, “Divorce is a word and love is a feeling, it’s very hard to mix both. A feeling, and words. Words is for legal, it’s for the law, good or bad, the law is good, [but] it can be bad sometimes. The feeling is love and it can be very hard for the lawyers to understand. They do their job as lawyers you know…
“We still love each other, of course, and all the people I met in my life, I love all of them. Every time you spend time with a person, whether it’s 10 minutes or 20 minutes, you build memories. If you listen for fake, then you’re stupid so every time you spend time with people in life, you should always enjoy and everybody should be in peace.”
Jean-Claude and Gladys were previously married for five years and divorced in 1992 when he had an affair with Darcy LaPier, an actress who became his fourth wife in 1994. When Jean-Claude and LaPier divorced, he got back together with Gladys in 1999.
