Johnny Depp Could Get Burned for Shunning Pre-Nuptial Agreement
The man famous for playing a greedy pirate could soon get plundered as Johnny Depp is headed for a divorce without a pre-nuptial agreement.
Depp has found incredible success playing a multitude of roles that are only outnumbered by the checks those movies have written. Multiple reports, including CelebrityNetWorth.com, have indicated that Depp is worth at least $400 million, a fortune that he amassed during a career that spans more than three decades.
And all of that wealth will be on the table during negotiations. Amber Heard, a woman 22 years Depp’s junior, filed documents with the court asking for divorce and spousal support. She cited irreconcilable differences as the cause for the filing, although TMZ is now reporting that she sought and has received a personal protection order due to physical abuse.
The relationship will come to an end after just 15 months as husband and wife.
A prenuptial agreement would have protected Depp financially. He could have put a cap on any alimony payments before the marriage via a mutual agreement, ensuring that the judge or his soon-to-be ex-wife’s attorneys couldn’t split up his earnings.
Adding insult to injury, Depp is likely looking at a long and contentious fight in the courtroom, assuming no deal is amicably reached. Heard’s lawyers know Depp’s worth and will fight to get their client the biggest check possible. That means Depp will have to pay his own legal fees to keep Heard from getting too big of a piece of the pie.
For now, Depp’s representation has responded to the request for spousal support with a rejection.
