According to TMZ, Katharine McPhee, star of NBC’s now canceled show Smash, has finalized her divorce from Nicholas Cokas. After a debate over their finances, Cokas is walking away with a hefty sum. Who says family courts never rule in favor of men?
Cokas was awarded alimony, as well as half of the proceeds McPhee has made as a singer and an actress. In fact, he is getting half of the income she received from her music rights on the songs made during their marriage, even those that have not yet been released. Cokas will also receive half the income McPhee received from Smash.
One of the important arguments made during the couple’s divorce proceedings was when they separated. McPhee claimed it was in 2013, while Cokas argued they didn’t separate until May of 2014. The timing was important because Cokas could claim the proceeds to Smash if it was 2014, which is what the final divorce documents state.
McPhee currently stars in the CBS Show Scorpion. Cokas was awarded money from the pilot episode. He is also getting 50% of her $700,000 contract with Columbia/Epic Records and his 2013 Jeep Wrangler. McPhee gets to keep her 2012 Mercedes Benz M Class SUV.
The couple got married in February of 2008. Their break-up got ugly when Cokas alleged that she was having an affair with the director of Smash.
